p.s while buying old domains be cautious bcoz the domain cud have been penalized by Search Engines and which is very clear that it wont help u in SEO :P

But one thing I was not pretty sure was why a spammy blog linking to you will harm you.
In fact, Backlinks from any source, is welcome. It is a different matter that many links will be useless for you, but I don't think they can harm you in any way.
Had this been the case, then it would be very easy for someone to kill your rankings, if you are his competitor. Simply create one hundred spam blogs, link to your competitor and kill him. Creating one hundred spam blogs in one hour is not a big thing for black-hatters.
@Silki - This will lower your ranking for sure.Yes comeptitor can kill others person's website,but they dont do (even if they do,that person deletes them)
May be we have different thoughts on SEO :-)
