1. First, go to the Gtalk client link mentioned in the blog post above using google chrome.
2. Click the Page menu (right next to the reload button near the address bar). Select Create application shortcuts.
3. In the 'Google Gears' dialog box, select the checkboxes where you want shortcuts to be placed on your computer (Desktop, Start menu, and/or Quick launch bar) and click the OK button.
Now you can open the gtalk application using the shortcut placed on your desktop, start menu, or quick launch bar).
